Job Summary
The Woods Academy is seeking a dedicated and experienced School Nurse to join our team on a full-time basis.
The Woods Academy is an inclusive Catholic community preparing boys and girls to lead lives of significance. The school serves approximately 300 students in the Washington DC, Metropolitan area, including Montgomery County, Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The Woods is where children come to discover their talents, grow in their faith, challenge themselves, and foster a strong desire to lead lives of significance. The school provides a comprehensive education for children from age three to grade eight with strong academics, a daily world language program, hands-on technology instruction, and a well-rounded arts program, all conducted in a small classroom setting.
The School Nurse position is a full-time 10-month position. The School Nurse supports the overall health and well-being of the student body and school staff by providing direct nursing care, managing health records, implementing health policies, and promoting a safe and healthy school environment. The School Nurse serves as a vital member of the student support team and plays a key role in health education and emergency preparedness. As a member of the front office staff, the candidate will also represent the school and serve as the first point of contact for greeting parents, students, visitors and staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to students and staff for injuries and acute or chronic health conditions.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders and school policies.
- Maintain accurate health records, including immunization documentation, emergency action plans, and daily health logs.
- Collaborate with families, school personnel, and outside healthcare providers to support students’ individual health needs.
- Monitor and manage communicable disease prevention, control, and reporting as required by local and state regulations.
- Participate in the development and implementation of Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs) and 504 Plans as appropriate.
- Educate students and staff on wellness, nutrition, hygiene, and disease prevention.
- Maintain the school health office, including first aid supplies, medical equipment, and documentation systems.
- Support the school’s emergency response plan, including training for staff in CPR, first aid, and other health-related procedures.
- Assist with health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing) and referrals when needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA and FERPA guidelines.
- Communicate with the Montgomery County Health Department and implement directives related to communicable diseases and its spread within the school community.
Other Duties
The School Nurse is a member of the front office staff and therefore must possess strong interpersonal skills to create and maintain a welcoming environment for staff, students and families.
As an essential member of our front office team, the School Nurse assists in managing the daily operations related to attendance, building entry, communication, and emergency preparedness.
Additionally, the School Nurse serves as a member of the Onsite Emergency Management Team (OSET).
Salary and Benefits
The Woods Academy offers a competitive compensation and benefits package, including a comprehensive health insurance offering, generous 403(b) retirement contributions, vacation leave, and tuition remission benefits. The compensation for this non-exempt position ranges from $38.00 to $48.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Requirements
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing (BSN preferred).
- CPR and First Aid certification (AED certification preferred).
- Experience in pediatric, community health, or school nursing is strongly preferred.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently with exceptional initiative and judgment, and collaboratively with faculty, staff, and community.
- Appreciation of and commitment to serving the needs of multiple constituencies (students, parents, faculty, staff, and community members) of a diverse population.
- Experience using Magnus Health or other electronic student health record management software strongly preferred.
