Description

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provides comprehensive, quality patient and family centered care to meet the identified care needs of patients of varying complexity but with predictable outcomes and manageable responses.
• Has the knowledge, skill and judgment needed to provide safe, evidence-based nursing practice within his/her level of competency and comply with the College of Nurses of Ontario Standards, QCH Policies and Procedures, as well as the standards of care appropriate to his/her area of clinical practice.
• Demonstrate QCH values: collaboration, accountability, innovation, respect

Requirements

• Registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• RPN diploma
• Current BCLS
• One (1) recent experience in acute care working with complex older adults experiencing medical and/or surgical problems with comorbid mental health problems, including Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.
• Knowledge of non-pharmacological strategies to manage Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia.
• Ability to provide written consultation and plan of care for identified behavioral concerns.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to understand, interpret and carry out verbal and written instructions in the English language.
• Ability to work effectively within the nursing and inter-professional team
• Demonstrated computer competency

PREFERRED:

• Geriatric Resource Nurse Designation
• Gentle Persuasive Approach Training
• P.I.E.C.E.S certificate
• Completion of Dementiability Course
• Experience with clinical documentation in an Electronic Health Record
• Membership in RPNAO and associations related to nursing specialty
• Experience as preceptor
