Opportunity InformationAbout the role
Sutter West Bay Medical Group (SWBMG) is seeking a full-time physician leader in Complex Family Planning (CFP) to develop and lead a comprehensive, system-aligned reproductive health program at Sutter Health California Pacific Medical Center (CPMC). In this role, you will expand access to advanced contraception, high-risk family planning services, and evidence-based abortion care, while supporting education, quality improvement, and system integration. This position includes dedicated administrative time for program development alongside a clinical practice focused on consultative and outpatient care, with limited hospital-based responsibilities.
Clinical Scope
- Provide advanced contraceptive care, including LARC (Nexplanon, hormonal and copper IUDs)
- Manage medically complex patients requiring individualized contraceptive planning
- Standardize contraception practices and protocols at CPMC/SWBMG and participate in Sutter Women's Health Service Line strategic alignment
- Deliver high-risk family planning consultations for patients with complex medical, surgical, or obstetric conditions
- Collaborate with subspecialties (e.g., MFM, oncology, cardiology)
- Provide preconception and interpregnancy counseling
- Offer comprehensive, patient-centered counseling on pregnancy options
- Develop or partner with college-based clinics to provide STI screening, treatment, and contraception services
Program Development & Procedures
- Develop and standardize system-wide policies and procedures for medical and surgical abortion services
- Partner with pharmacy leadership to ensure safe, compliant medication workflows
- Establish evidence-based clinical guidelines and ensure consistency across sites
- Provide D&E training, proctoring, and consultative support for procedural care
- Build internal competency and reduce reliance on external resources where appropriate
Partnerships & System integration
- Establish a formal relationship with Planned Parenthood and other community partners
- Create streamlined referral pathways for complex cases and services not available internally
- Improve care coordination and continuity across systems
Hospital-Based responsibilities
- Participate in OB hospitalist shifts as call responsibility
- Potential limited participation in backup gynecology call, based on system needs
Administrative & Leadership responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive Complex Family Planning (CFP) program
- Standardize clinical protocols and workflows across sites
- Partner with Women's Health Service Line leadership
- Lead quality improvement initiatives and define program metrics
- Support provider education and workforce development
Qualifications
- MD/DO with board certification/eligibility in Obstetrics & Gynecology
- Demonstrated experience in complex contraception and high-risk family planning consultative care
- Training and/or experience in abortion care (medical and surgical) and commitment to evidence-based, patient-centered reproductive healthcare
- Experience leading program development, quality improvement, and/or clinical operations across sites (preferred)
- Strong collaboration, communication, and stakeholder partnership skills
- Eligible for California medical licensure
