The Orthopedic and Robotic Surgical Services at Albany Medical Center is seeking a full-time Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to join our busy and collaborative Perioperative Surgical team. This position offers an exceptional opportunity to be part of a progressive surgical team at the forefront of patient care. The candidate will work alongside accomplished surgeons and staff while gaining hands-on exposure to advanced robotic technology, such as the Davinchi Xi, dv5, and the Mako inOrthopedics robotics. The candidate will also assist a wide variety of surgical specialties in a supportive learning environment. Position Highlights:
- Some schedule flexibility, as arranged with supervision
o Monday-Friday, daytime hours
o Preference for four 10-hour shifts with a dedicated day off
o Option for five 8-hour shifts
o Opportunity for candidates to supplement income by working additional shifts on weekends or regularly scheduled days off
- Position located at AMC’s main campus (43 New Scotland Ave Albany NY 12208) with occasional work at the South Clinical Campus in Albany
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include:
- Provide comprehensive perioperative care for surgical patients
- Assist surgeons during a wide range of surgical procedures, including robotic assist in general surgery, urology, gynecology, thoracic & colorectal, and total joints, sports medicine, foot & ankle, upper extremity in the Orthopedic department.
- Perform first-assist and second-assist duties in the operating room
- Collaborate with perioperative nursing staff and surgical teams to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care
- Participate in a collaborative learning environment where experienced surgical teams provide mentorship and training across multiple surgical specialties
- Maintain proficiency in evolving surgical techniques, technologies, and perioperative best practices through ongoing professional development
- Document patient encounters, operative notes, and clinical findings accurately and in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, patient safety programs, and evidence-based practice efforts within the surgical department
- Support a culture of teamwork, continuous learning, and excellence in a fast-paced surgical environment
Qualifications:
- Completion of appropriate education as follows:
o Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant degree program OR
o Master's Degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program and completion of RNFA training
- Must be licensed and actively registered as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in New York State
- Able to quickly master all aspects of a computerized medical recordkeeping and billing system.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills.
- Must be HIPAA compliant at all times.
- ACLS/BLS certification required
