Comprehensive Women’s Health Care at WVU Medicine
Under the leadership of Dr. Brian Casey, M.D.—Chair of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences and Editor of Williams Obstetrics—Women’s Health at WVU Medicine is driven by a unified academic vision that extends across both our tertiary academic medical center and our community-based practices.
WVU Medicine is advancing an integrated model of women’s health that bridges academic medicine with the realities of rural and regional care delivery. Anchored by J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and the WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital, and supported by a growing network of hospitals and outpatient centers across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio, our system is expanding access to highly specialized services including Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Minimally Invasive Gynecologic Surgery, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, Urogynecology, and comprehensive behavioral health support for women.

Where Your Impact Goes Further
Across Appalachia, communities rely on WVU Medicine not only as their academic medical center, but as a lifeline for specialized care that would otherwise require hours of travel or go completely unmet. Every patient seen, every procedure performed, and every innovation implemented has the potential to change the trajectory of health for families across multiple states.
The WVU Medicine Women’s Health Ecosystem
Women’s Health at WVU Medicine is built upon an integrated model that combines the strengths of an academic medical center with a robust network of community-based practices.
Anchored by J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital and WVU Medicine Golisano Children’s Hospital in Morgantown, WV, our academic campus serves as the clinical, research, and educational hub for women’s healthcare across the system. Here, multidisciplinary teams advance the field through cutting-edge research, resident and fellowship training, and the delivery of complex tertiary and quaternary care.
Beyond Morgantown, WVU Medicine’s growing network of hospitals and outpatient centers across West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Ohio extends the reach of academic expertise into the communities that need it most. Through this model, community physicians collaborate closely with academic specialists to ensure patients benefit from evidence-based care pathways, streamlined referrals, and access to advanced subspecialty services.
Training the Next Generation of Women’s Health Leaders
At WVU Medicine and the West Virginia University School of Medicine, education is central to our mission. As the state’s flagship academic health system and a land-grant institution, WVU carries a responsibility not only to deliver exceptional care today, but also to train the physicians and healthcare leaders who will shape the future of medicine.

The Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Sciences plays a vital role in this mission. Through a robust academic environment, faculty physicians participate in the education and mentorship of medical students, residents, fellows, and interdisciplinary healthcare professionals who will go on to serve communities across the country.
The OB/GYN Residency Program provides comprehensive clinical training across the full spectrum of women’s healthcare. Residents gain hands-on experience in obstetrics, gynecologic surgery, maternal-fetal medicine, gynecologic oncology, reproductive endocrinology, and urogynecology, preparing them to become highly skilled clinicians capable of practicing in both academic and community environments. WVU Medicine’s diverse patient population and regional referral base provide trainees with exposure to a broad range of clinical conditions, from routine care to complex tertiary cases.
Faculty physicians play a critical role in shaping this next generation of healthcare leaders. Through clinical mentorship, didactic teaching, and participation in research and innovation, WVU Medicine physicians contribute to a culture of academic inquiry and professional development that extends well beyond the classroom or clinical setting.
